This privacy policy explains how Your Local Window Cleaner (“we”, “us”, “our”) collects and uses personal information when you use window-cleaner.net (the “website”), including our directory of UK window cleaners, our enquiry form and user accounts.
Who we are
The website is operated by Window Cleaner, trading as Your Local Window Cleaner. We are the controller of the personal information described in this policy.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we use your information, please email [email protected].
Information we collect
When you send us an enquiry
If you use our enquiry form, we collect your name, email address, address (if you give it) and your message. We use this to reply to you and deal with your enquiry. We may send you an email confirming that we have received it.
When you create an account
If you register for an account, we collect your name, username, email address and password (stored in encrypted form). We use this to set up and manage your account, let you log in and keep your account secure.
When you add or manage a directory listing
If you add a listing for a window cleaning business, we collect the details you submit, such as the business name, contact name, phone number, email address, website, address, areas covered, description, images and opening hours. Listing details are published on the website so that people looking for a window cleaner can find and contact the business. Please only submit information you are happy to be public, and only submit information about other people if you have their permission.
When you contact a business through the directory
If you contact a listed business through the website, the information you provide will be passed to that business so it can respond. The business will then use your information for its own purposes and is responsible for how it does so.
When you browse the website
When you visit, our web servers and security services automatically process technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, the pages you visit and the date and time of your visit. This is needed to show you the website, keep it secure and prevent misuse. With your consent, we also collect information about how you use the website through analytics cookies (see “Cookies” below).
How we use your information and our lawful bases
Under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) we must have a lawful basis for using personal information. We rely on:
- Contract – to provide your account and publish and manage your directory listing.
- Legitimate interests – to reply to enquiries, run and improve the directory, keep the website secure and protect it from spam and abuse. We only rely on this where our interests are not outweighed by your rights.
- Consent – for analytics and marketing cookies, and for loading Google Maps. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
- Legal obligation – where we need to keep or share information to comply with the law.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies. Cookies that are needed for the website to work (for example, to remember your cookie choices or keep you logged in) are always used. Analytics and marketing cookies are only used if you agree to them in our cookie banner. You can change your choices at any time using the “Manage consent” option on the website.
Full details of the cookies we use are in our Cookie Policy.
Third-party services we use
We use the following services to run the website. They process personal information on our behalf, or as independent controllers where stated in their own privacy policies.
- Website hosting – the website is hosted on servers provided by Cloudways (DigitalOcean). Information you submit through the website is stored on these servers.
- Cloudflare – provides our content delivery, performance and security services, so your visit passes through Cloudflare’s network. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
- Cloudflare Turnstile – protects our enquiry, login and registration forms from spam and bots. It checks information about your browser and device to tell people and bots apart. It is needed to keep the forms secure and does not use marketing cookies. See Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum.
- Google Analytics 4 – helps us understand how visitors use the website, such as which pages are visited, so we can improve it. Analytics cookies are only set if you consent. If you do not consent, no analytics cookies are set, although Google may receive limited information without cookies (such as that a page was viewed). See Google’s privacy policy.
- Google Maps – shows the location of listings and service areas. Maps only load if you choose to load them or accept marketing cookies. When a map loads, Google receives information such as your IP address. See Google’s privacy policy.
- Jetpack (Automattic) – provides website security, performance and image optimisation services, and, if you consent, visitor statistics. Automattic may process technical information such as your IP address. See Automattic’s privacy policy.
- Email – emails sent from the website, such as enquiry notifications and confirmations, are sent from our web server.
We do not sell your personal information.
International transfers
Some of these providers (such as Google, Cloudflare and Automattic) may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as UK adequacy regulations (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum.
Who we share your information with
We only share your information:
- with the service providers listed above, so they can provide their services to us;
- publicly, where you have submitted a directory listing for publication;
- with a listed business, where you contact it through the website;
- where we are required to by law, or to protect our rights, our users or others.
How long we keep your information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose and to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations. When it is no longer needed, we delete it securely or anonymise it.
How we keep your information secure
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure hosting, spam and bot protection, and restricted access to our systems.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information;
- ask us to restrict how we use your information;
- object to us using your information where we rely on legitimate interests;
- ask us to transfer your information to you or another organisation;
- withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on consent.
You can update most of your account and listing details yourself by logging in. To exercise any of your rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within one month.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have used your information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator: ico.org.uk or 0303 123 1113.
Children
The website is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated.
